Iran denominates its oil sales in euros instead of dollars, which means they could flood the market with cheap oil which the US can neither buy (the Federal Reserve doesn’t print euros) nor compete with. While there are other reasons for conflict, such as Iran’s proposed oil pipeline to India and beyond, this has created an economic vulnerability in the US.
