In Netherlands Telephone companies and internet service providers will have to keep details of every phone call, email, text message and online chat made in the Netherlands for a year under new anti-terrorism measures. MPs agreed on Thursday night that police and the security services will be able to ask for the information as part of investigations into terrorism or other serious crime. The rules stem from a European Union directive and should have been introduced in the Netherlands two years ago. The coalition Labour party (PvdA) voted against the plan.
